Philosophy

Magizo, translated from Swahili, means to instruct; however, effective teaching is a lot more than just instructing. You cannot teach those you do not know; therefore, the focus at Magizo is always on the individual student. Understanding the student's strengths, challenges, learning style, and goals are essential to worthwhile tutoring, and is an initial goal in both private tutoring and classes. 

Regardless of academic background, with the right support and attitude, any student can succeed. Seeing the potential in all students whether the student is an A student at a prestigious school or on the verge of failing, is the first job of the tutor. The second is instilling confidence in the student and giving them the tools necessary to succeed.

It is just a matter of realizing this innate fact.  

Experience 

Robyn Allison has tutored students in the maths and sciences for over six years. She has worked with students in middle, high school, and college in the Boston and metrowest areas as well as nationally via Skype. She has worked with a wide range of students from returning college students in their 50s to students at top universities such as Harvard, MIT, and Tufts, and has become increasingly familiar with the curricula at schools in the Newton and Brookline areas. Robyn regularly tutors students at Newton South & North, Brookline High School, Maimonides, Winsor, Belmont Hill, Newton Country Day, Dexter, Cambridge Rindge & Latin, Boston Latin, Gann, Brimmer and May, Wellesley High School, Boston University Academy, Boston College High School, and many more. 

Robyn has worked with a range of students with different backgrounds and learning styles. She believes that effective tutoring goes beyond just knowing the content, and requires a connection with the student and how the student learns best. Once this is established, the learning process can be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
